The First Zohar – 1 In the Beginning

In the Beginning, a Dark Flame did appear
Occupied its place in the Heavenly Sphere,
That surrounded the King!
At first, the Flame was not yet clear:
It issued like a fog, from under His Wing.
It issued slowly, like a rolling fog, from underneath His wing…

The Flame… was black nor white,
Nor… did it emit ANY color,
Until… it assumed some might.
Only then, did it come to radiate light
From its invisible depth, up to unfathomable height!
But, though it was both… there AND here
The light… did NOT exceed… the Heavenly Sphere…

The Core, the primordial point!
The Wisdom of God, the supernal joint!
No creature… can go beyond or below it,
No,
No creature can, even, know it…
Unless, the Lord does… bestow it…

The Light… then drew the universe:
The suns and the planets, to disperse
Throughout the holy Expanse,
Without assistance… from ANY circumstance!
While the stars… commenced… their dance…
