First Zohar - 08 The Spirit in Thee

It may well be, that all roads lead to Rome,
But only the straight path leads to the Heavenly Dome.
Do not believe the words of a stranger
Nor trust just any sign
You would not eat from just any manger
Or drink unknown wine?
Mankind is varied: good, and bad, and in between.
Among your peers you may have seen:
One virtuous, one evil, one ordinary…
The virtuous one you marry,
The evil one please find scary,
And of the regular one… be wary:
He may be average today,
But you will never know… if thus he will stay…
Man is made of three:
Neshama, Ruach, and Nefesh.
Nefesh is base, it is the Vital Soul:
The basic drive… for one single goal.
Ruach is the knowledge of evil and good,
That helps you distinguish truth from falsehood.
Neshama is your character, the well of purity.
Through Neshama you reach maturity.
Together they construct your fate,
For man is whole only when all cooperate.
Nefesh alone roams and scours, kills and devours.
Ruach alone is lost and loose, and does not know what to choose.
Neshama alone appears divine, but is merely an empty shrine.
Combined, the three are righteousness and purity,
Provide surety and security,
And guarantee… futurity!
My child, be careful, everything is at stake:
You are only helped forward… along the path you take...
