From the recording The First Zohar
Lyrics
10 – Midnight
“Midnight I will rise to give thanks unto Thee”
Even though tired or distraught I may be
Every night at twelve I will rise to study Your laws.
For to refrain has no legitimate cause.
For three hours the accusing angels
Go about their business below,
But at midnight God enters the Garden (of Eden)
And they leave all woe
To join His conversation with the Righteous.
Oh, to be present above!
Oh, to feel the mutual love!
If not as a man, even as a dove!
David ben Shlomo sang his songs of praise
Phrase by phrase
Till the last of his days
At the very same hour
Open is the Garden gate, open also is the Flower…
Why did King David sing “Midnight” and not “At”?
He counted the hours and found that night is not flat.
Three hours of strict judgment then meet
Six hours of mercy, that the Accusers cannot beat
