Lyrics
11 – The blessing of Ya'akov
© Issachar Tal van Kekem
Our Father Ya’akov was a fraud
Who with the help of his mother
Belied his blind father and robbed his brother
Yet he still received from the Lord our God
A blessing and a nod
Upon his return to the Promised Land
He was not blessed for his fine acts,
For those were too few
But for the glorious impacts
Of the sons he grew
Ya’akov was blessed by God, by angels, and by man,
And he used those blessings sparingly.
Even saved the best one for the Nation of his Name
For when it would call out to God despairingly
Israel, oh Israel, dispersed, and persecuted!
Endlessly oppressed and executed!
But a single thing the nations agreed about:
Ya’akov’s posterity needed to be wiped out
Micha prophesized this:
“The remnant of Ya’akov shall be in the midst of many peoples,
as dew from the Lord, as showers upon the grass.”
Yeshayahu predicted this:
“A remnant shall return, the remnant of Ya’akov.”
Yeremiyahu said:
“They shall come with weeping.”
And therewith is fulfilled the word of Ovadyah:
“Saviours shall come up on mount Zion, to judge the mount of Esav,
And the kingdom shall be the Lord’s!”
