The First Zohar - 14 – When Our Father Ya’akov Departed
© Issachar Tal van Kekem
As the days drew near, that Israel was to die,
He did not protest, did not call out “WHY?!”
As his days drew near to God,
He felt secure he would be given the nod:
For his soul would surely need no cleansing,
As he had spent his adult life praying and benching.
Young Ya’akov had indeed done some wrong
But mature Israel had been steady and strong,
Therefore he called only Yoseph “my son”,
As with Potiphar’s wife, Yoseph did as Israel would have done.
And the Lord, the God of Israel, accompanied him into the foreign land,
Promising to make him into a great nation by His holy hand.
“Fear not, my beloved, fear not!”
Put your hand under my thigh, on the mark of the Covenant,
And swear… by this… to honor that fundament
Of our Nation’s faithful seed, exiled,
But remaining undefiled
Yoseph ruled over Egypt, and Ya’akov’s remains he carried
Back to the Promised Land, to have them buried
As Israel had requested,
In the caves at Chevron, as Avraham had behested.
Where our Patriarchs ever since, together, have rested.
“Fear not, my beloved, fear not!”
“My beloved, fear not!”
“My beloved, fear not!”
“My beloved, fear not!”
