Lyrics
Let the waters swarm
© Issachar Tal van Kekem
As is written:
Let the waters swarm with living souls!
And place fishermen on high poles
To provide for the hungry humans on dry land
For, if not for the waters, they would sadly cry, and,
If… not for its sustenance, they would surely die, and,
Either be killed by greedy competition, or by their own hand…
Every day, each fisherman must teach the words of the Creator
If he forsakes that holy task, he will be executed as a traitor
He has studied the water and its ways,
By the grace of God, for all his days
His wisdom is not for him to keep and hide
He must disperse it, far and wide
As a Priest of God, as mankind´s moral guide
chorus:
Without water, the water creatures cannot live,
Without Torah, man will never learn… to be kind, and to give
The fishermen, and their students, are God’s angels on Earth
To justice and charity, they give birth
So, let the birds fly above!
With the strength of an eagle, and the delicacy of a dove!
chorus:
Draw me down, oh Lord, from my arrogance!
Lift me up, oh Lord, from my decadence!
Release me, my Father, of my irreverence!
And empower me to acquire your Torah’s benevolence…
