I Was Gazing

Rabbi Shim’ón arose and said:
“I was gazing upon the act of Creation
And I saw that not a handbreadth separated
The Waters Above form the Waters Below.
No space to be, no place to grow…”
When God announced He intended to create Adam
The Waters revolted with every drop, every atom
East nor South, West nor North
Would agree to take part in bringing forth
That destroyer of worlds, that murderer of creatures
They would not even consider his features
And vehemently refused to ever be his teachers
Then the Holy One arose and said:
“Till your old age, I am He: till you turn grey, I will carry you!”
But the angels asked: “What is man that You should consider him?!
What glory bring his deeds, that you should trigger him?!”
Then the Holy One arose and said:
“We will create him in Our likeness
And therewith assure is rightness
We will create him in Our image
So he will not cause you shrinkage.”
The the Holy One returned to His Throne
And as He spoke His final words, His Face shone:
“This matter has been decide and will not be debated
For I have spoken, and with My word I HAVE created!”
