The Tower of Nimrod

Nimrod was one… that “marad” – revolted.
The king of Shinar incited his people to the most horrific affront.
To turn them from God, he chose to be extremely blunt.
Health, prosperity and wealth, happiness and satisfaction
Were all to be seen as man’s own doing
God was not even to be thanked for the seasons’ renewing!
Nimrod sent messengers to read a royal declaration:
“In His anger, God will threaten another Flood,
But you need not be scared:
We will build a tower higher than the deepest sea,
Yes, we will be prepared!
Our tower will reach the Heavens, it will pierce the sky!
Even God will not be able to raise His waters that high!
My throne will stand in the Heavens,
and I will rule from beyond the farthest star:
And that jealous God will bow, and kneel,
And sink deep and far!
Chorus:
You will obey me, and you will be free!
You will do and see as I do and see!
Do my bidding, and be like me…
Do my bidding, and be like me!
God was, of course, fully aware of Nimrod’s scheming,
And as He saw the construction site teeming
With the children of the survivors of the First Flood,
Oblivious to their repetition of the sins of their fathers
Insensitive to the loss and sorrow of their mothers
He knew a Second Flood also would not have the desired result
As mankind would only survive to multiply and again insult…
Chorus:
God saw how gullible and rebellious men were,
And He therefore resolved to confuse them
To destroy not their lives, but their ability to cooperate,
To coordinate,
And to that end, He caused the tongue of every man at the Tower to twist,
So not one could any longer understand the other!
As every man every other man began to assault
The building of the Tower came to a grinding halt…
Chorus:
But men, women, and children scurried to flee
For they had rather serve our Lord and be safe, than befree…
