In a Village a Palace

Rabbi El’azar … and rabbi Chizkiya …
Stayed for a few nights at a Lydda inn
When at midnight, they rose to engage in Torah
Behold: their humble abode … appeared to a royal palace … akin!
Like an apple tree among the trees of a forest
Colourfully adorned, the Holy One is unique, for
No one compares … no ONE compares … with him…
Avraham came into this world, already desiring and loving the Blessed Holy One.
Yitschak was born to Avraham and Sarah, a child without blemish, a pure son.
Therefore, Abraham is likened to an apple emitting an enticing fragrance…
Therefore, Yitschak is called “pure fruit”: because of his ‘zohar’ – his radiance…
Ya’akov was the Father of our Nation, the Elder of all our Tribes.
Therefore, Ya’akov is called “The Tree of Israel”, for we are all his generations…
Although, for now, we are … unfortunate … vagrants…
I delighted to sit on Mount Sinai
To reveal Myself to the Children of Ya’akov,
For I knew they will, eventually, pay their dues:
The Children of Israel I will not lose!
Mine is the universe and all that is therein!
But for Israel I yearn, and Israel I will win!
